Apasal la aku malas sembahyang,
Tuhan kasi aku jasad siap dengan bayang – bayang,
Bukan ke lebih beruntung daripada tiang,
Berdiri tanpa roh malam dan siang.

Apasal la aku malas sembahyang,
Kerja dah best keluarga pun dah senang,
Negara pun dah aman tidak lagi hidup berdagang,
Takkan lima minit lima waktu aku tak boleh luang.

Apasal la aku malas sembahyang,
Tuhan kasi otak supaya aku tak bangang,
Tuhan kasi ilmu boleh fikir susah senang,
Tuhan kasi nikmat kenapa aku tak kenang.

Apasal la aku malas sembahyang,
Main bola aku sanggup sampai petang,
Beli tiket konsert aku sanggup beratur panjang,
Apa la aku ingat masuk syurga boleh hutang?

Apasal la aku malas sembahyang,
Aku kena ingat umur Kita bukannya panjang,
Pagi Kita sihat petang boleh kejang,
Nanti dalam kubur kena balun sorang-sorang.

Apasal la aku malas sembahyang,
Siksa neraka Cuba la aku bayang,
Perjalanan akhirat memang terlalu panjang,
Janji Allah Taala akan tertunai,
Tak siapa boleh halang.

Once upon a time, there was a king. The king liked one of his followers very much because he was very wise and always gave very useful advice. Therefore the king took him along wherever he went.

One day, the king was bitten by a dog, the finger was injured and the wound was getting worse. He asked the follower if that was a bad sign. The follower said, ‘Good or bad, hard to say’.

In the end, the finger of the king was too bad that had to be cut. The king asked the follower again if that was a bad sign. Again, the follower gave the same answer, ‘Good or bad, hard to say’. The king became very angry and sent the follower to prison.

One day, the king went hunting in the jungle. He got excited when he was on the chase of a deer. Deeper and deeper he went inside the jungle. In the end he found himself lost in the jungle. To make thing worse, he got captured by the native people lived inside the jungle. They wanted to sacrifice him to their god. But when they noticed that the king had one finger short, they released him immediately as he was not a perfect man anymore and not suitable for sacrifice. The king managed to get back to his palace after all. And he finally understood the follower’s wise quote, ‘Good or bad, hard to say’.

If he hadn’t lost one finger, he could have been killed by the native people. He ordered to release the follower, and apologized to him. But to the king amaze, the follower was not mad at him at all. Instead, the follower said, ‘It wasn’t a bad thing that you locked me up.’ Why? Because if the king hadn’t locked the follower up, he would have brought the follower along to the jungle. If the native found that the king was not suitable, they would have used the follower. Again, the quote ‘Good or bad, hard to say’ stands.

The moral of the story is that everything that happens in this world, there is no absolute good or bad. Sometimes good things turned out to be bad things eventually, while bad things become a gain. Whatever good things that happen to you, enjoy it, but don’t have to hold too tight to it, treat it as a surprise in your life. Whatever bad things that happen to you, don’t have to feel too sad or despair, in the end, it might not be a total bad thing after all. If one can understand this, he or she will find life much easier.

Are you one of those people who rarely touches the Qur’an? Or do you read daily, but don’t find it is having the impact on you that it should? Whatever the case may be, these are some simple tips that can help you connect with the Qur’an.

1. Before you touch it, check your heart. The key to really benefiting from the Qur’an is to check your heart first, before you even touch Allah’s book. Ask yourself, honestly, why you are reading it. Is it to just get some information and to let it drift away from you later? Remember that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was described by his wife as a “walking Qur’an”: in other words, he didn’t just read and recite the Qur’an, he lived it.

2. Do your Wudu (ablution). Doing your Wudu is good physical and mental preparation to remind you you’re not reading just another book. You are about to interact with God, so being clean should be a priority when communicating with Him.

3. Read only 5 minutes everyday. Too often, we think we should read Qur’an for at least one whole hour. If you aren’t in the habit of reading regularly, this is too much. Start off with just five minutes daily. If you took care of step one, Insha Allah (God willing), you will notice that those five minutes will become ten, then half an hour, then an hour, and maybe even more!

4. Make sure you understand what you’ve read. Five minutes of reading the Qur’an in Arabic is good, but you need to understand what you’re reading. Make sure you have a good translation of the Qur’an in the language you understand best. Always try to read the translation of what you’ve read that day.

5. Remember, the Qur’an is more interactive than a CD. In an age of “interactive” CD-Roms and computer programs, a number of people think books are passive and boring. But the Qur’an is not like that. Remember that when you read Qur’an,you are interacting with Allah. He is talking to you, so pay attention.

6. Don’t just read, listen too. There are now many audio cassettes and CDs of the Qur’an, a number of them with translations as well. This is great to put on your walkman or your car’s CD or stereo as you drive to and from work. Use this in addition to your daily Qur’an reading, not as a replacement for it.

7. Make Dua (supplication). Ask Allah to guide you when you read the Qur’an. Your aim is to sincerely, for the love of Allah, interact with Him by reading, understanding and applying His blessed words. Making Dua to Allah for help and guidance will be your best tool for doing this.
